Premium Efficiency (EISA 2007)

In 2010, the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 mandated that all applicable AC industrial motors manufactured or imported into the U.S. after December 2010 must meet the Premium Efficiency standards. Because this initiative was driven by the NEMA organization, the Premium Efficiency standard is commonly referred to as "NEMA Premium". IronHorse MTCP Series Premium Efficiency motors meet or exceed the Premium Efficiency guidelines in the EISA 2007 standard.

As part of the Ecodesign Directive , the European Commission has passed a regulation that stipulates the minimum efficiency levels for LV electric motors that can be sold within Europe . The Regulation had its first effect in June of 2011 after which motors have to be of an efficiency class IE2 or higher. In 2015, the minimum rises to IE3 or IE2 if combined with a Varable Speed Drive..

Motors for short-time duty (S2) or switching operation (S3<80% to S10), and motors that were designed exclusively for converter operation (VSD) and which cannot be operated online are exemptions to the classification system.
