Electrical Fuses, Fuse Holders and Fuse Blocks Products | Control Panel Hardware & Tools | Industrial Fuses, holders and Circuit Breakers (MCBs and MCCBs) | Electrical Fuses, Fuse Holders and Fuse Blocks Cable Ratings & ProtectionThere is an increasing move away from 70°C PVC insulation to materials that are more environmentally friendly, for example 90°C XLPE.The ratings of fusegear, switches, accessories, etc.are generally based upon the equipment being connected to conductors intended to be operated at a temperature not exceeding 70°C in normal service. In view of the above, it is recommended that the practice of designs based upon conductor temperatures of 70°C be regarded as the norm. The equipment manufacturer should be consulted to ascertain the reduction of nominal current rating of the equipment if conductor temperatures exceeding 70°C are used. In addition, an overriding factor is often voltage drop. Fuses with gG characteristics protect associated cables against both overload and short circuit current, provided that the current rating of the fuse 1N is equal or less than the current carrying capacity of the cable 1z. In motor circuits, the motor starter will provide the overload protection and the fuses will provide the short circuit protection. The maximum fuse size that can be used depends upon the type of cable used and is determined using the appropriate K factor. The following table gives the maximum sizes of fuses that are recommended for two popular cables with copper conductors, 70°C PVC (K = 115) and 90°C thermosetting (K = 143).
Motor CircuitsIn motor circuits, the fuse has to withstand the motor'sstarting current and often requires a higher rating than themotor's full load current.Coordination recommendations aremade by the manufacturers of motor starters in accordancewith IEC 60947-4-1.To get Type 2 coordination with fuses, tests are performed with the latest gG or gM fuses to BS88or IEC 60269 that have pre-arcing I2t values towards the bottom of specified limits. This means that Cooper Bussmannfuses are suitable to provide Type 2 coordination.Extended dual ratings of motor circuit protection fuses withgM characteristics are available in most popular fuse sizes toextend the use of associated equipment with appropriateeconomies. In the majority of applications, gG fuses areused. It is not essential to use gM fuses for motor circuitprotection, they simply extend the utilization of standardequipment. |
 | Current Limiting fuses Class CC With rejection tips on the bottoms to prevent them from being used in holders not rated similarly. Branch circuit rated for 600 VAC (EDCC also 300 VDC), 0.5 - 30 Amps, Interrupt Rated: 200,000 RMS Symmetrical Amps, UL, CSA, CE
- HCLR Series - Fast-acting design responds quickly to both overload and short-circuit current, ideal for resistive heating and lighting loads.
- HCTR Series - Time-delay design allows closer sizing for inductive loads such as control transformers and solenoids
- EDCC Series - Time-delay design specifically designed for motor protection, provides excellent current limiting capabilities. Use for protection of small horsepower motor circuits or other circuits requiring small dimension, time-delay fuses.

| | Current Limiting Class J Fuses & Holders Recommended for Type 2 (no damage) protection of IEC style motor starters and contactors, and to protect lower interrupting rated circuit breakers. All general purpose circuits with inductive (high inrush) loads, including motor and motor branch circuits, transformer circuits and lighting loads. Rated for 600 VAC, 1 - 600 Amps, Interrupt Rated: 200,000 (Self-Certified to 300,000) RMS Symmetrical Amps, UL, CSA
- Space saving dimensions compared to Class R fuses
- Dual-Element construction provides superior time-delay to pass harmless motor or transformer surges

| | Current Limiting Class RK5 Fuses & Holders Popular fuses and economical fuses for most applications, especially motors and transformers. Recommended for AC power distribution system mains, feeders and branch circuits having inductive loads (motors, transformers) or non-inductive loads (lighting, heating) where the available short-circuit current does not exceed 200,000 RMS symmetrical amperes. These true dual element, time-delay fuses have minimum industry standard time-delay of 10 seconds at 5 times the fuse rating (8 sec. minimum for 250V, 30A and less). The time-delay characteristics of these fuses allows them to be sized closer to the running current of inductive loads to reduce cost and provide tight overcurrent protection. UL, CSA ECNR Series - 250 VAC rated, 1 - 600 amps ----- ECSR Series - 600 VAC rated, 3 - 600 amps |
| | Current Limiting Class RK1 Fuses & Holders Up to 40% more current limitation and up to 350% more Amps-Squared-Second (I2t) limitation under fault conditions than ECNR/ECSR series fuses, reducing the potential for damage. They also offer a better selection for electrical power system designers and superior short circuit protection for breakers having inadequate interrupting ratings. ECNR/ECSR and LENRK/LESRK fuse lines are interchangeable. UL, CSA. KENRK Series - 250 VAC rated, 10 - 600 amps ----- LESRK Series - 600 VAC rated, 5 - 600 amps |
| | General Purpose - Class M (Midget) Fuses & Holders For supplemental fuses protection of non-inductive control circuits, street lighting holders, HID lighting and electronic equipment that require high interrupt ratings and fast-acting response. UL, CSA, CE. MCL Series - 600 VAC rated, 0.5 - 50 amps ----- MOL Series - 250 VAC rated, 0.5 - 50 amps For supplemental protection of small motors, transformers, solenoids, and other high-inrush power electronic circuits that requre a time-delay response to prevent nusance tripping. UL, CSA, CE. MEQ Series - 500 VAC rated, 0.25 - 30 amps ----- MEN Series - 250 VAC rated, 0.5 - 30 amps |
